Risky Youth Trends Focus of Medical City Alliance School Nurse Training

FORT WORTH – 35 nurses from Northwest Independent School District participated in Medical City Alliance’s annual school nurse education series on March 20. This year, classes focused on modern-day health hazards affecting youth including stroke and vaping dangers, mental wellness and cardiac events, especially in young athletes, and other topics.

“The training offered by Medical City Alliance ensures Northwest ISD school nurses are prepared to address some of the new challenges facing today’s student,” says Rebekkah Dellaccio-Bazley, RN, Northwest ISD district health coordinator. “Our nurses are at the front line and it’s imperative Northwest ISD nurses stand ready to navigate the issues facing today’s students.”

Medical City Healthcare’s school nurse education series was created in 2017 in response to school health providers’ requests to address health trends in youth. Community Partners of Dallas and the American Heart Association are contributing expertise and educational materials. Medical City Healthcare, supported by the HCA Healthcare Foundation, is a proud supporter of the American Heart Association’s Getting to the Heart of Stroke initiative to champion stroke prevention.

“Partnering with Northwest ISD and other local school districts is a priority for Medical City Alliance,” says Glenn Wallace, CEO of Medical City Alliance. “We are committed to partnering with local school administrators and nurses to make this a better community for all.”

The school nurse education series complements Medical City Healthcare’s award-winning kids teaching kids® Healthy Lifestyles program, which offers children and families nutrition education and resources to improve eating habits.
