Justin Elementary School Kelly Barrett has been named the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented regional and state Teacher of the Gifted Award for her outstanding service, commitment and contribution to gifted education. She will be honored at the annual conference among her peers in December.

On Saturday, August 9, 314 families attended Northwest ISD’s annual Back to School Fair, hosted by NISD Partners in Education and Communities in Schools North Texas. This year’s fair provided supplies and free services (such as physicals, haircuts and health screenings) to approximately 754 students.

Northwest ISD greeted 241 new teachers during the New Teacher Academy this week. Teachers new to NISD spent the week in a series of professional development trainings, visiting with mentor teachers and at a breakfast provided by Title Sponsor the Northwest ISD Education Foundation.

At a school board meeting on July 29, the NISD Board of Trustees approved Adam Feind, CETL as the district’s new chief technology officer. This position will oversee technology, instructional technology and application software in NISD.

The Northwest ISD communications department has won six national awards in the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) annual publications and electronic media competition. There were approximately 725 publications and electronic media entries submitted this year.
